Ethics: Breast Massage

Course Description

The class is designed to review the ethical concerns while working with breast tissue. The class will review the history of massage. It will explore all areas of touch: the definition of touch, the various meaning of different touch, the significance of touch and the many types of touch. The class will explore the differences of touch from various countries and the need for certain considerations. It will distinguish the difference between intention and goals with your touch. The class will review the Rules and Regulations for the State of North Carolina and South Carolina, the Code of Ethics from NCBTMB and the Policies of the Association of Massage Therapist (AMT). The class will encourage the students to discuss and role-play ethical issues that they may face in their daily practice when introducing breast massage to their clients and working with breast tissue.

Foundation In Breast Massage

Foundation in Breast Massage is Prerequisite to Breast Health (Advanced) 16hr class

Course Description

The class is designed to educate any individual (male or female) (therapist or not) about breast health and breast concerns. The class will cover information that will assist everyone to incorporate breast massage into their life / their massage practice and relationships. The class will cover the ethical concerns with touching breast tissue. Individuals/therapists will review the Rules and Regulations required by North and South Carolina Rules and Regulations. (This does not serve as an Ethics Class- See Ethics: Breast Massage above) The class will go into the basic knowledge of the lymphatic system and the techniques to prepare the individual/therapists/clients lymphatic system prior to beginning breast massage. The class will cover the importance of hydration and its relationship to a healthy body and proper lymphatic flow. An introduction to thermography, mammography, ultra sound and MRI will be included. The risk factors for breast disease and how to better prevent breast disease will be introduced. The class will help the individual/therapist better understand how overall improved health impacts the breast health. The class will teach the individual/therapist how to do basic Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) at the clavicular and axillary areas and massage techniques for the breast while fully draped. You do not have to be a massage therapist to take this class. It is available to anyone for general education about breast care. This course is a prerequisite for the Two Day Breast Health :Advanced class.

Lymphatic Drainage and Massage

Foundation in Breast Massage (5hr) is Prerequisite to Breast Health – Advanced 16hr class

Course Description

The class is designed to help Massage Therapists, Nurse Practitioners/Physicians Assistants/Lactation Consultants, Doulas, etc. understand and appreciate how to facilitate better breast health. The class expands on Lymphatic Techniques for Breast Health, a Self-Breast Exam, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Massage techniques for breast health and how Cupping is used as a treatment. The therapists will understand the importance of the lymphatic system and how to do manual lymphatic drainage. The class will provide instructions on how to identify and palpate lymphatic congestion in the breast tissue. The Massage will provide a method to treat and reduce lymphatic congestion. Therapists will know how to educate their clients, to understand and appreciate the lymphatic system and how to take better care of their own and their client’s breast tissue. We will discuss and demonstrate on each therapist how cupping assists in breast health. There will be an introduction to Breast Thermography and how it assists in monitoring breast health.
Because of the nature of the class, the classes will be all female or all male. Mixed classes can be arranged with appropriate permissions. Therapists must be comfortable working on their own bare breast and the bare breast of the other therapists in a group setting.
